I declared spiritedly, “I was smitten by this gastronomical conservatory, when I was here, oh so long ago. One reason I love Paris is because ‘Le Haute Classique’ never goes out of style, it gets better with time, like La Fermette Marbeuf.
“It was Prince P and Sheik Fahrib who introduced me to this art nouveau restaurant. Remember I documented my epicurean experience in A Harem Boy’s Saga – Book III – DEBAUCHERY?”
“I remember your ‘haute affaire’ with this Fine Dining institution,” my beloved jested. “This certainly is an enchanting Belle Époque establishment.”
Just then the maître d’hôtel arrived to show us to the finest table.
He enquired, “Messieurs, êtes-vous sur votre lune de miel? (Sirs, are you on your honeymoon)?”
Walter replied, “Nous avons été engagés pour 9 ans. Nous voulons nous marier en France. (We’ve been engaged for 9 years. We want to marry in France).”
The maître d’ gazed at me and asked, “Allez-vous être sa Valentine? (Will you be his Valentine)?”
“S'il me demande, j'ai correctement peuvent envisager. (If he asks me properly, I may consider),” I quipped.
He gave Walter a wicked wink and handed us the decorative menus before excusing himself.
As soon as he departed, Walter held my hand to his.
“Will you be my Valentine? Will you marry me?” he looked me in the eyes and declared.
“If I’m not already your Valentine, would I stick around for 20 years?” I chirped merrily. “Are you proposing again? Or do I have to wait for the 3rd proposal before we tie the knot?”
He responded effervescently, “Maybe, I’ll be lucky the 3rd time round.”
We broke out in hilarity before he lifted my hand to his lips and sealed it with a kiss, in front of the authentic Lalique masterpiece, etched by the famous art nouveau artist, Alphonse Mucha.
